Everyone loves fishing for a different reason, but for me, it has been integrated throughout my whole life, and has always been one of my favorite activities. I have been fishing for over 14 years and it has always been a bonding activity between me and my friends and family. In many ways seeing the joy on others faces after landing the fish of a lifetime is what made me pursue guiding in the first place. Fishing is also a great way to clear your head and connect with nature after a long or particularly stressful day. On these day especially it is as much about the activity as it is catching fish. It is a passion of mine (noted in years of fishing logs) to use weather, water temperature, air, temperature, and tidal movement in order to predict fish patterns and annual locations. Fishing is also exceptionally humbling. It is almost bitter sweet finding feeding fish and having a great bite for days or weeks only for the fish to completely disappear and begin the hunt to find them once again. It never ceases to amaze me after so many days and years spent on the water how fish can give even the most experienced anglers a curve ball. Every captain hopes every day will be fast limits, big fish, and calm seas. However, as any experienced angler will know this isn’t always the case. Just like life things don’t always work out the way you would hope. Water gets rough and dirty, fish get lockjaw or move, and spots get overfished. These challenges are what makes it so special when limits get hooked, trophy’s get caught, and memories are made.
